    Happy St Andrews Day!

St Andrew was said to have been crucified on a saltire, or diagonal shaped cross, as he did not deem himself worthy of being crucified on the same type of cross as Christ.
In AD832 (according to legend) Angus mac Fergus, the King of the Picts, prayed to St Andrew for help in battle. He saw a saltire appear in the blue sky, formed from white clouds. Angus saw this a good omen and he went on to win the battle. From then on a white saltire on a blue background became adopted as the flag of Scotland :)
